Stitch Functions

With 67 built-in stitches, 70 pre-programmed embroidery designs and 5 font styles, there is no denying the fact that Brother SE400 provides a wide array of designs and stitch styles. However, having more designs and stitch functions does not mean that the embroidery-cum-sewing machine is better than the others in the market. After all, the key is not to have a myriad useless functions but rather useful and beneficial ones and Brother SE400 definitely provides the latter! Owing to the wide selection of built-in sewing stitches, the machine allows the user to try his/her hand at making clothes, hemming jeans, quilting, making bags, engaging in paper craft sewing, etc.

What’s more, the presence of the side cutter allows the user to trim off the fabric at the seam just like a serger and create professional-looking finished edges. Thus the SE400 machine is a serger, a sewing machine and an embroidery machine all rolled into one.

As far as embroidery designs are concerned, there are 70 inbuilt ones to choose from. Also, there are 10 frame types (diamond, circle, square, rectangle, etc) to use in conjunction with 12 stitch styles, thereby providing one with up to 120 varied styles of framing options.

One can control the speed, start, stop and the needle by simply pressing a button, pushing a slider or turning a dial! Price

The SE400 combination sewing and embroidery machine is reasonably priced considering the sheer amount of computerized features, functions and stitch styles/designs it offers. With this machine, you don’t have to shell out a lot of money in order to get customization. Thus, the SE400 is definitely a value-for-money product.

As for out-of-pocket costs, you will need to invest in a set of good quality strong needles owing to the strong breakage tendency. Also you’ll tend to find the singular embroidery hoop that comes with the machine quite small once you get the hang of embroidering. For instance, what would you do in case of a 12×12 inch pillow or a baseball cap? Thus, you’ll need to incur out-of-pocket expenses to get multiple embroidery hoops, compatible with the machine, to suit your requirements or needs.

This is surprisingly affordable considering all its features! I’ve had a Singer sewing machine in the past – I don’t remember the model, I bought it from Craiglist. I plan to use this at home to embroider the occasional bed sheets or baby clothes, it’s much cheaper than having things customized.

I think I’ll invest in this sewing machine. I plan to open a small Etsy shop but my budget is kinda limited right now so I can’t buy a high-end model. The only downside is its weight; I’ll carry it from my studio to my apartment so this might make it a bit uncomfortable but we’ll see…

This combination embroidery machine with sewing capability is great for general use. I did recently gifted one to my cousin, who loves embroidery a lot.
